We are extremely excited and proud to partner with Kyle Rapps on his vinyl release of “Surf Tape” (FHLP 009). The vinyl release comes in two variants - classic black vinyl or translucent emerald. An album this good deserves to be stored in a rice paper inner sleeve and housed in a resealable poly vinyl bag.

Surf Tape is produced by Dan The Automator (whose credits are too many to list but include Deltron 3030, Handsome Boy Modeling School, Gorillaz, Kool Keith and many, many more) and since Kyle enlisted Dan to provide all the beats for this project the vinyl release gives you all the instrumental versions which are not available on line.

An LP was always meant to be listened to all the way through, and Kyle sequenced the songs with care and purpose from the opening song “We Don’t Swim” to the closing “Black Bodhizafa” which features super group Coast Contra who bring their trademark energy and skills to the project. Surf Tape has another feature from Jarren Benton who absolutely kills it on “Gone Surfing”. This album is a MUST for any hip hop fan and is a stinging counterpunch to all the “there is no more good music being made”. Don’t believe us check out the samples of the tracks for yourself:

“We Don’t Swim”

“Gone Surfing”

“Chocolate Gypsy”

“Make Malibu Black”

“God is Underwater”

 “Black Bodhizafa”

In these days of disposable art, AI artists getting signed, streaming only music, Kyle wanted to “memorialize” his Surf Tape project with a Vinyl release - we are honored to play a small role in bringing his vision to fruition. Pick up your copy (or copies) today before they are gone.

All of our records are shipped in sturdy cardboard mailers.
Surf Tape has been mastered for vinyl by Gus Elg at Sky Onion Studios in Portland, Or.

Materials and care

To ensure the best sound quality and longevity for your vinyl:

Make sure you handle disks form the edge to avoid oil transfer to the playing surface.

Keep and play records at temperatures ranging from 45-70 degrees.

Remove all dust before playing a record.

When playing a 45 RPM record, ensure your turntable is set to the correct speed (45 RPM) using the speed switch.

If the record has a 1.5-inch center hole, use a proper adapter to fit it onto the turntable spindle; records with a 0.25-inch hole do not require an adapter.

For deeper cleaning, use a record cleaning solution with distilled water and avoid tap water due to potential mineral deposits.A soft, lint-free cloth can be used to apply the solution, wiping gently in a clockwise direction from the center to the outer edge, then reversing to clean back to the center.
